33 Writing Hacks for Those Craving to Publish: Writing Hack #8. Get Honest by Deborah S. NelsonThis writing hack is the bottom line for writers. When you write, whether it is journalism, poetry, fiction, or non-fiction you must be transparent. To create a bond between author and reader, the author must be honest. Making up a false character is fine for the narrative, but not fine for the author. The writing piece is not about you, and as the author, you need to stay out of the way of the story. Let the story take on a life of its own, by simply being honest as you write. Do not confuse the narrative with a story about who you are. Keep it simple.

In addition, as a writer, an incredible practice you can develop is to cultivate a practice of being honest with yourself. Keeping it real, as a person (and as a writer) will activate the flowing words! As a writer, you will constantly need to be connecting with “the muse” or “your source” and to do that, you’ll need to be transparent enough to let the story connect with you. Then, and only then, can you communicate the message to the reader.
